Jacksonville and the Sweet Adelines community said goodbye today to Jackie Russo, a bass singer, leader, friend, jokester, lover of life and treasure in our organization for 52 years.
Jackie was one of those rare folks who always has a smile on her face, a kind word to say, and a funny icebreaker to rescue even the bleakest of social situations! It wasn’t possible to be in the same room with Jackie and not smile or share in her radiant energy. Thank you for always shining your light, Jackie!
Thank you to McGraw Center for Caring Community Hospice for allowing as many as 75 singing women in your hallways at one time and then for allowing us to sing in one accord to our dear friend. Your accommodation is sincerely appreciated.
And thank you, especially, to Jackie’s children, Jan and Mark, and daughter-in-law Susan, who took such care to see that Jackie was protected and kept as comfortable and well as possible. Your and your family’s generosity in allowing Jackie’s “other” family at her bedside was an act of love and compassion that will remain in our hearts for a lifetime. Steppin’ Out Quartet and Sunny Daze Quartet thank you for allowing us to sing for Jackie. And both Jacksonville Harmony and prospective Bridges of Harmony choruses thank you for warmly welcoming our stampede of harmonizers yesterday, allowing us to sing a few songs, allowing Jackie to take part in that sweet, four-part harmony of which she has been a part for over 50 years, and then one-by-one say our goodbyes to our sister and dear friend. Thank you. Your loss is truly our loss.
You, indeed, have harmonized the world with your song, Jackie Russo.
At Jackie's request, the family will not hold a service. Cards can be sent to :
