Singing Valentines A Sweet Success!

Love was in the air February 14, and music was the wings it flew in on.

If you found yourself serenaded this past Valentines Day, chances are your loved one ordered one of Jax Harmony's traveling quartets to come and sing sweet love songs to you.

Jacksonville Harmony held its annual Singing Valentine campaign February 13 and 14 with three quartets traveling the entire city for two days, delivering love to all kinds of unsuspecting recipients. Sapphire, Sunny Daze and A Cabellas quartets surprised dozens of Valentines throughout the city with flowers, a personalized card and two love songs chosen for just such an occasion as this.

Winter Regional

Last weekend was the much anticipated annual Sweet Adeline Region 9 Winter gathering, where the region comes together for workshops and singing, as well as performances by choruses and quartets, and just lots of fun!

It's a great time for us all, especially with Region 9 competition only two months away in March! So while we come to have fun, we also come with a purpose: to learn and perfect our craft!

The two days was over in no time, but we certainly all managed to find the time to hunt down old friends, make new friends, and get down to the business of doing what Sweet Adelines do best: sing! <3

Coaching with Randy Loos

Jacksonville Harmony had the privilege of working Tuesday evening under the direction of coach Randy Loos, from Oldsmar, Florida.

Loos has coached choruses and quartets for 30 years, from novice to international champions. He has also directed such choruses as the Tampa Heralds of Harmony and Toast of Tampa, whom he led to a gold medal championship in 1993.

A 20-year barbershop quartet singer, as well, Loos has won the Sunshine District three times and placed as an international finalist six times.

To you we offer our sincere thanks, Randy, for your vested interest in our group of ladies and for devoting a full night to our betterment. Until we meet again, let us harmonize the world with a song.

9/11 Remembrance at FSCJ

Barbershop Bunco!

Jax Chorus hosted a fabulous Barbershop Bunco July 26 on Jacksonville's westside.

We did some crazy dice-throwing for an hour, running from table to table and taking on new teammates every few minutes. Then we all took a break for some scrumptious food and drink and fellowshjip only to be followed by another hour of Bunco fun. We were also able to sing a few songs for our guests, who were gracious and fantastic!

Thanks to Kirkwood Presbyterian Church for hosting this fun-filled event and for the generous use of your facility. We appreciate you! And thank you to our guests for choosing to come out and play with us girls. We adore you and look forward to our next escapade together!

Cabaret: Star Spangled Harmony

Jax Harmony had the honor of celebrating our nation's Independence through music, food and fellowship June 28 at our holiday cabaret: Star Spangled Harmony.

The chorus performed a mix of patriotic music followed by some of our favorite crowd-pleasers. We even gave a sneak preview of a couple of our international competition pieces that we'll sing in Vegas this October! While the group took a brief intermission, three quartets performed two songs each; they included Just One Night, Chordinated and Group Therapy.

50 Years and Counting ...

Jax Harmony recently celebrated the 50-year landmark of one of our cherished sisters, Jackie Russo, who received in April the Golden Girl award for 50 years of service in the Sweet Adeline family.

Jackie began her Sweet Adeline journey in New Jersey with the Atlantic City small chorus where she acted as treasurer and sang baritone. It would not be until 14 years later that Jackie would be “saved” as a bass, a voice part she would stick with for 36 more years.

From Atlantic City, Jackie moved to Song of the Atlanta (formerly Song of the South), still a bass but this time president! And from there she moved to the Jacksonville Chorus (Now Jax Harmony). In need of a director, Jackie was asked to step up and direct.
